Thelma was cremated, and her ashes were strewn across the San Jauquine Valley by her granddaughter, Annette Hendry Taylor (daughter of son Ronald W and Margurite), according to her wishes. Her two surviving sons, John Newton Hendry, Jr. and Robert William Hendry were not informed of this, as she (Thelma) feared that they would not allow the cremation, opting instead for buriel in a cemetery, which Thelma did not want.
